Things To Know About Perfumes

A perfume is a liquid blend of aromatic oils, fixatives and solvents, used to give the human body, objects or living space a pleasant smell. When you apply a fragrance, you can see that within several minutes of application it seems to change its smell. The reason for this change is actually how the perfume reacts with the body's natural oils while volatilizing.

The smell of a fragrance is composed of three distinct notes that characterize the levels of volatilization of the ingredients in its composition.

Top note perfume
It is the first smell that you feel immediately after applying the perfume. It is extremely volatile and has the delicate and fresh scent of the perfume.

Middle note perfume
It represents the smell that you feel about 30 minutes or an hour since you applied the perfume. It is the best time you can see the real smell of perfume on your skin and make a decision to choose the scent. This memo is not as a volatile fragrance as the previous one and has a clear and warm scent of the perfume.

The base note perfume
It is the smell of the perfume two hours after application. On this note, there are very little volatile ingredients. It has the rich and persistent smell of the perfume. For this reason, depending on each person separately, the same perfume will smell different after a few hours have passed.

Perfume Categories
Besides the structure of perfume notes, there is a dividing line into categories depending on the percentage of perfume / alcohol composition in each perfume.

Perfume
It contains the highest concentration of perfume (15%-20% perfume and 80-85% alcohol), and the smell can last up to 8 hours. Not recommended to be used in areas with humid environment.

Eau de perfume (EDP)
The concentration of perfume is about 12-15%, and alcohol is found in combination with water in a concentration of 85-87%. The smell can last between 6 and 8 hours and is very strong when the weather is cold.

Eau de toilette (EDT)
The concentration of perfume is about 5-12%, and alcohol is found in combination with water in a concentration of 85-87%. The smell can last about 5-6 hours.

Cologne (EDC)
The concentration of perfume is about 2-6%, and alcohol is found in combination with water in the highest concentration. They smell may last about 2-4 hours.

Mini Perfume
It is a smaller version of the perfume originally created to be used during the day to refresh your favorite perfume scent.

Powder, perfumed body lotion, roll-on deodorant
It is the extension of the perfume’s market line and were designed to help the perfume last longer throughout the time, while at the same time reducing the quantity of perfume used.

Persistence perfumes
To make a perfume last longer it is recommended to use extension products of the respective perfume (body powder, perfumed body lotion, deodorant roll-on). However there is a special way to get the same results, which is namely the application of perfume in hot-spots of the body: the temples, behind the ear lobe, wrists, between your arm and forearm, chest, behind the knee and on top of the ankle.
The persistence of a fragrance depends primarily on the concentration of essential oils that come in its composition. A perfume extract persists more than eau de toilette (EDT). Secondly, persistence is due to a high content of wood and animal extracts which have fixing roles (musk, amber, vanilla, sandalwood, etc.).

How to use fragrances (see also: Top Five Fragrances In History)
It is advisable to apply the perfume immediately after bathing or showering.
Avoid applying colored perfumes to clothing as to not stain them. It is best to apply them directly on your skin because the smell will persist longer.
To save a little, apply perfume on your skin with the help of a sprayer. You use less perfume and cover a larger area.

If your perfume doesn’t have a sprayer and you apply it with your fingers, remember, fat, cream, tobacco, soap or whatever you recently touched will get into the perfume’s composition, ruining its scent.
You can change from time to time the perfume you use to avoid a habit of strong attachment to the scent that leads to the so-called immunization of smell to your favorite perfume. Change the perfume helps prevent the unpleasant moments the can occur due to overusing your favorite perfume

In high altitude areas, the smell of perfume is less persistent and it is recommended applying the perfume more often.
Keep the perfume in cold places, far from direct contact with sunlight. This will prevent the evaporation and discoloration of perfume.
