What Is Fashion - Quotes

Fashion to some is a frivolous matter and for others something so complicated and sophisticated, it is not worth thinking about it. Adored, abused, abolished, or dissected, fashion keeps on going its way. Throughout history, fashion caught the attention of artists and even writers who sought to find the answers to its questions.
Balzac: "Fashion is in fact the opinion of the moment in terms of clothing."

Gautier (a little misogynistic): "Women have just fashion sense, not of beauty"

Chamfort: “Change of fashion is the tax levied by the industry of the poor on the vanity of the rich. “

Latene: "Fashion is changing for the sake of change."

Delille (patriot until death): "In fashion, France is the undisputed arbiter."

Destouche: "A wise man will follow fashion, even if he laughs at it."

Pavillon: "Fashion is a tyrant whom everyone obeys."

Montfleury "The wise adapt to fashion, but the fools become its slaves.”

And my favorite, owned by George Bernard Shaw: "Fashion is a controlled epidemic."
